Pasquetta a Bobbio

April 13, 2009 // Posted in celebrations, free time, Travels  |  No Comments

Today is the classic Monday after Easter and in Italy it is vacation time. Usually we go in some nice place around, by bike or by car. Today we choose to reach (by car) Bobbio a small and historic village in the “oltrepo’ Pavese”, not far from “Monte Penice”. It was a nice sunny day and together with Silvia and Luisa we had lunch in a nice park (we prepared some good sandwiches and we ate some fruit too), and then we visited the village. It is very impressive how this place is clean and how nicely every building has been restructured. One of the most impressive point is the roman bridge, also called “hunchbacked” bridge because of the particular shape.
Once back to Pavia it was again sunny and lightly, so we decided to ride also our bicicles a little bit and we reached Certosa di Pavia.
Unfortunately tomorrow we have to come back to work, but today has been a very nice day.

A special bread

As you can see looking at the recipe, ricotta cheese is the secret ingredient for this bread that looks wonderful. Sacchibelli are almost free from commercial bread you can find at supermarket and usually they prepare bread using the Princess bread machine. Now, we these new experiments, as you can see from the picture, their bread is not only good, but it looks very nice too.

Today we had lunch at Carlo’s place. Carlo is a colleague of mine and a true friends of Sacchibelli. His wife Susana is back to Spain for a short trip with the beautiful daughters Marina and Sofia, so he managed a special lunch mainly based on fish. Anchovies and olives as appetizers, together with a very good wine from “Salento”, and then an amazing dish of “Spaghetti con le vongole”. They were great, and it was great also the following occhiata al cartoccio. As a dessert we brought our famous “gelato” (today it was based on fresh strawberries). We have to thank Carlo: to spend time with him is always nice and funny, and today we discovered he is also a great cook.

Colazione energetica

April 5, 2009 // Posted in food  |  No Comments

One of the preferred food blog Silvia usually read is Il cavoletto di Bruxelles, where she often finds some interesting idea. Today she focused on a special cake, called Caffe’ corretto versione cake. Its peculiarity is that, inside, there is both coffee and grappa. Probably it is a little bit energetic, but this will constitute the base for next Sacchibelli’s breakfasts.

Tulipani

April 5, 2009 // Posted in flowers  |  No Comments

Let’s continue with post based on something related to spring. Today it’s time to show our tulips. THey are only red or white and probably they are not the best tulips in the world (they are weak and they cannot stand in vertical position). However we love them and we are proud of them. We started two years ago when we bought 10 bulbs at the Amsterdam flowers market and today we have more then 20 tulips. This is a little bit strange, to be honest…

Sacchibelli’s flowers

In last posts we already highlighted our happiness for the coming spring time. So, although this weekend weather was bad, flowers at Sacchibelli’s place don’t care too much about this recent rain, and they become nicer and nicer. Tulips are not ready yet, but the surprise comes from our orchids. After more than one year our Phalenopsys surprised us with a beautiful flower. Primroses too look wonderful, although less exotic than orchids.

Ciao ciao inverno…

Yesterday it was the first spring time day. Winter time is gone and the weekend was full of sun. Moreover we are seeing the first flowers around (our tulips are coming soon…) and all these things make us quite happy. To celebrate spring time we decided to start with the self made “ice cream” season; you can see in the picture that this year our ice cream comes with “artisan” waffle, and I can guarantee that it is good as usual… I hope you will have a chance to taste it…

Taverna Santorini

March 22, 2009 // Posted in food  |  No Comments

Yesterday we were around the center of the city, at lunch time, and to avoid to come back home to cook something, we decided to come back to “Taverna Santorini” the greek restaurant we have here in Pavia. Silvia ordered some bifteki, together with tomatoes and olives, while I decided for a suvlaky, always with tomatoes and olives.
We like this place a lot, and yesterday too we were quite satisfied. Good food at a reasonable price.

Sacchibelli Boulangerie

The weekend we spent in Paris was wonderful. And among many nice things we always have in our hearts after that travel, to remember the extremely high quality of french bread (in particular baguettes) is always nice. So this morning we tried to make our own bread, not using our Princess bread maker but following a nice recipe we found in the “Kenwood book”. So, using our kitchen robot Kenwood, we made these two very good loaves, with ham and “Parmesan cheese” inside. Something special… believe to us.

Something strange

Last night looking from our windows we have seen a strange car parked close to our place. It is a “mysterious” SUV whose estimated length is about 7.35 m. For sure, everyone is free to spend his money as he prefers, but to drive such a car (?!?!?) through the narrow streets we have here around is probably not so easy. Our car length is only 3.84m, and to us it looks big enough….
