La prima visita a San Francisco ci ha portato a esplorare il Golden Gate Park, e in particolare lo stupendo “Japanese Tea Garden” e la suggestiva Baker beach, da cui si gode una maestosa vista del Golden Gate.
During the first visit to San Francisco we went to the Golden Gate Park, a very nice green area inside the city. The “Japanese Tea Garden” was particularly impressive. Then we went to Baker beach, a wonderful beach on the pacific ocean, from which it is possible to watch the Golden Gate.
Eccoci al resoconto della terza cena con Colin e i suoi genitori, stavolta anche con Silvia.
Siamo andati da “Chez Panisse“, un ristorante molto di tendenza di Berkeley. Ancora una volta rivedere Colin e i suoi genitori e’ stato estremamente piacevole.
Inoltre questa volta abbiamo anche visitato la sua casa a Berkeley, e conosciuto la mitica nonna.
Grazie ancora per la bellissima serata.
Here we are at the third dinner with Colin and his parents. This time Silvia too was present. We went at “Chez Panisse“, a very cool restaurant at Berkeley. Moreover we visited Colin’s house too at Berkeley and we met his lovely grand-mother. Thanks again for the exciting time we spent together.
Abbiamo gia’ visto in questo blog gli spaghetti iper-lunghi e le auto di dimensioni abnormi. Ecco un altro esempio di come qui tutto sia “oversize”.
P.S. Il sandwitch l’ho solo fotografato, non l’ho mangiato.
Here we already posted something about extra long spaghetti and huge cars. Also about sandwiches, Americans love extra size.

Approfittando del bel clima californiano, ci siamo concessi un Natale decisamente insolito
con tappa iniziale in spiaggia, a Half Moon Bay, Da li’ siamo poi ripartiti per San Francisco e, dopo aver attraversato il Golden Gate, eccoci a Sausalito per un pranzo di Natale abbastanza originale.
Exploiting the wonderful californian weather, we spent a very unusual Christmas day. We went to Half Moon Bay beach, to San Francisco and then to the other side of Golden Gate bridge, at Sausalito, where we had our peculiar Christmas lunch.
Alla fine, nonostante la nebbia di Londra e i ristretti tempi delle coincidenze, Silvia e’ arrivata in California.
Ed eccoci immortalati in una “romantica” colazione di Natale, ovviamente a base di bagels.
At the end, although some trouble with fog in London and flight connections, Silvia landed in California.
And today we had a “romantic” breakfast, obviously with bagels.
Per fortuna domani e’ Natale…

Qui negli Stati Uniti il cibo italiano e’ molto amato e rispettato. E come gia’ postato parecchie volte, e’ abbastanza facile trovare prodotti tipici e originali dell’Italia.
A volte pero’ gli americano non resistono a “americanizzare” anche cio’ che e’ molto italico.
Cosi’, visto che qui tutto e’ grande, e’ possibile trovare spaghetti di lunghezza improbabile…
Here in USA italian food is very popular. It seems that Italy is famous mostly for that (and for soccer and mafia too…); as I already shown it is quite easy to find original italian food here around. However some time italian food is “transformed” in the american way. Here everything is big and huge… so you can find spaghetti extremely long…

Venerdi’ scorso sono riuscito a far incontrare Marco e Anna con Ale ed Emiko. Sono le due coppie di amici che, in questo mio periodo forzato di solitudine e lontananza da Silvia, mi hanno di fatto adottato, rendendomi parte delle loro famiglie.
Non sapro’ mai ringraziarli a sufficienza per essere stati tanto cari e vicini a me in questo periodo.
E approfitto del post per ringraziare anche tutti coloro, come la comunita’ italiana del south california, Colin e la sua fantastica famiglia, Jared e i suoi carissimi genitori, Elisa ed Enrico, il mio “compagno di appartamento” Luns ed anche i nuovi colleghi di Marvell, che hanno contribuito a rendere speciale questo periodo di “esilio” forzato.
Dopo un’ottima pizza a Campbell siamo passati da Marco e Anna per il classico te + panettone. E cosi’ ne abbiamo approfittato per questa foto di gruppo (ora mi sono tagliato i capelli, e non mi riconoscereste).
Last friday I went for a pizza together with Ale&Emiko and Marco&Anna, the two couples of friends that were so close to me during this period far from Silvia. I was very happy because they didn’t know each other, and I’m pretty sure that now there will stay close in contact, also when I will be back to Italy.
I don’t have the workd to tell them thanks. I really appreciated your kindness during this period. And obviously I cannot forget all the other persons that allowed to me to spend a nice period here: the lovely italian community at Orange County, Colin and his wonderful parents, Jared and his lovely family, Elisa and Enrico, my “roommate” Luns and all the new colleagues at Marvell, that made this period far from Silvia however special.
After the pizza we went at Marco’s and Anna’s place, where we had a cup of tea, the classic panettone, and we took this nice picture (now I had an haircut, and you couldn’t recognize me).
