Bike revolution
June 21, 2012 // Posted in bike | No Comments
Few days ago new bike racks were installed in the court of the company where I work. And it is nice to note that they are already crowded. Maybe it is because of the increased cost of the gas, but it is nice to think that my colleagues are more sensitive to the sustainable mobility. More bikes and less cars; dreams or reality?
Salvaciclisti?

While in Italy too, probably because of increased cost of gas, people is more sensitive to sustainable mobility and in particular to the use of the bicycle, in Pavia it is always a nightmare to ride through the traffic. Although there is some “bike sharing” proposal from “Amministrazione Comunale”, this seems to be just a “spot” and not a serious proposal. In fact it always happens that bike riders like us have to face the arrogance of cars (and of cars drivers). And this arrogance is oddly tolerated by the authorities, as demonstrate by the picture taken in front of the city hall….
Finale Ligure by bike

Last Thursday, together with my colleagues Antonio and Alessandro (aka Pesu), we decided to spend one day riding our bicycle instead of staying at the office. So we moved to Finale Ligure with the Multipla filled with our bicycles, and here we rode through a really nice route, up to 1000m, and then back to Finale Ligure. It was a great experience, also because we found a route with no traffic, and this made our ride fantastic.

This blog supports the twitter campaign #salvaiciclisti, originated by a campaign of “The Times” to protect cyclist against dangers due to heavy trafic. In the last 10 years 27.000 cyclist were killed in UK, and starting from this crazy number, “The Times” started its sensibilitation activity. Such a campaign is spreaded over the world trough #salvaciclisti is very popular in Italy too, where the situation for cyclist is ever worst than in UK. Let’s hope that something will change…
Una pedalata al mare

After riding, during fall time, along the Ticino and Adda river, we decided to move to the sea, because of warmer weather. So yesterday, together with Antonio, Pesu and Flavio, we went by train to Genova, carrying on our bicycles, and then we rode following the wonderful path you can see in the map. The sun was really warm, and to eat focaccia in front of the sea, close to our bikes and in perfect harmony with true friends is something magic.
Da Lecco a Milano, sempre in bici
November 30, 2011 // Posted in bike | No Comments
Although during the summer we didn’t ride too much, in this period I’m doing some good rides with some friends and colleagues. The inspiration is always about Pedale-Maiale, i.e. to ride the bicycle (with public transportation) within nice places and with emphasis on food and drinks. So, together with Alessandro (aka il Pesu) we went to Lecco by train (leaving Pavia early in the morning) and than we rode from Lecco to Milano following a really nice bike path close to Adda river. It was exciting also because we arrived almost in the center of Milano in a safe way. We stopped at Gropello d’Adda where we ate amazingly good “casoncelli della valcamonica” and a really great “costata”. It was a great day. Thanks Alessandro for joining me during this trip.

Last Saturday, together with 4 friends of Pedale-Maiale, the sacchibelli male component rode his mountain bike from Sesto Calende (where we arrived by train) to Pavia, in an exciting ride along the Ticino river and the “Naviglio”, for more than 100 km. Some more detail can be found here. For sure it was a great day, and also the lunch break (in Albairate) was really exciting.

It is known that, unfortunately, here in Pavia there is no respect for pedestrians and cyclists. There are too many cars, and they are in some way “allowed” to occupy also the little space reserved to pedestrians and cyclists. It is sad, but sadness increases when you observe that also who should defend them makes the same mistakes… So we had already the opportunity to take two pictures of Local Police cars parked on the bike lane…. Pedalata svizzera

In this period we are in Lausanne. Silvia came here for a course, while I joined her last Wednesday as a tourist. And yesterday, while she was at the course I rented a bike and I rode through the mountains aroound the lake. It definifely was an amazing ride and from here you can download the gpx of the whole tour.

Few days ago we went, late in the afternoon, back to Marvell office to bring home my notebook. We met few colleauges of mine still at work, and we took off together. It was nice to realize that all of us (4 Marvell guys + 1 intruder…) went at the office by bike. It is just another confirmation that Pavia should be a bike-friend city, and we hope that in the future something will be done to make bikers life easier…
