Aspettando la cicogna…

December 2, 2009 // Posted in family  |  No Comments

Maybe you already know the big news, but let’s here officially communicate to the world that a baby Sacchibelli is coming. Yes, Silvia is pregnant and at the beginning of April we will welcome our little baby girl. It is nice for us to share with you our happiness.

Cinnamon rolls

November 29, 2009 // Posted in food  |  No Comments

It is a common opinion here in Italy that American pastries are huge and too elaborated compared to European ones. Maybe something is true in this assertion, mainly if you think American extra-thick and multilayer cakes you can find at superstores. However, in the periods we spent within California, we discovered many interesting things that made American pastry very attractive to us.Cinnamon rolls are probably our preferred but, unfortunately, it is not easy to find them here around. So this morning we decided to prepare them starting from the recipe you can find here, but introducing some modifications (like the use of raisins). The experiment was exciting and you can admire our home-made cinnamon rolls in the first picture, while, in the second one, you can observe how much I appreciated them…
P.S. I know only two humans that don’t love cinnamon rolls, our friend Antonio (hopefully for him, it’s not easy to find cinnamon rolls in Marzano) and our friend Marco (the one who rarely updates his blog…). I really can’t understand how this is possible.

Aspettando l’inverno…

The cold winter still didn’t arrived here at Pavia, so we didn’t experiment yet our famous fog. Yes, it is continuously raining, and the sky is gray, and we only can remember with nostalgia the blue sky over the golden bay, with the amazing red bridge delimiting the boundary with the infinite ocean… And the nostalgia increases more because we know that fog is only in delay, and snow too will arrive soon.
However the good news is that for sure I will not suffer too much because of cold temperature here. We already posted scarf and hat knitted by Silvia, but today we can announce that convertible mittens have been released too (always by Silvia, obviously). Look at them, they are amazingly cute. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ubuntu has arrived

November 15, 2009 // Posted in computer  |  3 Comments

E ci piace citare qui la frase scritta sul retro della cover: Ubuntu is an ancient African word which means ‘Humanity to others’. If you know someone who would enjoy Ubuntu, please pass it on and share the spirit.

As you know, we like Gnu-Linus OS, and in fact we are all our PCs running Ubuntu, one of the most famous distribution. Few days ago version 9.10 was released (it is called Karmic Koala) and we already moved to that. As you know Ubuntu can be freely downloaded (it is Open Source), but an interesting thing we read on Ubuntu web site was that it is possible to order (always for free) a physical CD. So we filled the form and after few weeks, as you can see from the picture, we received it. On the back of the cover there is a phrase that fully describe Ubuntu spirit: Ubuntu is an ancient African word which means ‘Humanity to others’. If you know someone who would enjoy Ubuntu, please pass it on and share the spirit. And we hope that someone who is reading this blog now would try it…

Autunno Inverno 2009

November 8, 2009 // Posted in DIY, weather  |  No Comments

Eccole in anteprima in queste foto.

Fall time is arrived, at the end. Still few leaves on the trees, mainly yellow or red. Something similar (but not so spectacular) to the fall season we enjoyed while we were visiting the east coast of the United States (three years ago…) around the Boston area. And fall season comes here with fog, rain and very low temperature, to prepare the winter season. But this winter too I will be able to ride my bicycle. And it will be easier than in the past: in fact Silvia prepared for me a wonderful woolen hat knitted by her, together with a scarf, amazingly warm. Here there is an exclusive preview… And maybe this year Sacchibelli will set a trend also about fashion…

Pain au raisins

November 8, 2009 // Posted in food  |  No Comments

.
E buon appetito…

As you probably know, we like preparing our home-made bread using our Princess bread-machine. Simple white bread is very good, but sometimes we prefer to add olives, or walnuts, or….
This kind of bread is amazingly good, but this time we prepared a special bread ideal for breakfast time. In fact we added raisins to white bread, and we were very enthusiastic of the result. We found the recipe here, however let’s summarize the procedure:
INGREDIENTS

  • 280ml warm wather (45/50 C)
  • Sugar: 1 TBS
  • Olive oil: 2 TBS
  • Salt: 2 TSP
  • White floor (00): 500 g
  • Brewer’s yeast: half a cube (12.5 g)
  • Raisins: 100 g

HOW TO
Put togehter inside the brad machine the water, the white floor, the olive oil, the sugar, the salt and the brewer’s yeast (crumbled). Then switch on the machine (quick program, crusty bread) and after 25 minutes (our princess rings after that time to advice you) add the raisins. After 2 hours and 20 minutes the bread is ready, and you can enjoy….

Altri 12 euro sacrificati…

Here at Sacchibelli’s we have both laptops and desktop running GNU Linux. It seems to us significantly better than Windows, but when there is some hardware fail, linux too can’t fix everything. So, we had to live with some extra noise coming from the CPU fan of the desktop. We were thinking that to fix it would have been quite easy, but we had to buy three CPU cooler before to find the right one. But now our desktop is so silent that sometimes we forget to switch it off.

Bike recovery

As you probably know, I like to ride my bicycles: usually within the city, but sometimes also around the world (see here). Obviously it happened that I had some mechanical problem (flat tire, brakes and so on) but I have been liucky enough, because I never had to ask help to a breakdown vehicle…

I Miserabili – Io e Margaret Tatcher

October 28, 2009 // Posted in free time  |  No Comments

E invitiamo tutti ad ammirarlo, sempre ne “I Miserabili Io e Margaret Tatcher” in diretta su La7, lunedi’ 9 novembre, in prima serata.

A lot of time has passed since we last went to the theater, but when we knew that Marco Paolini was planning to stop in Pavia to present “I Miserabili – Io e Margaret Tatcher”, we immediately bought the tickets.
And Marco Paolini was great, with a very exciting recitation, both thoughtful and ironic. And he also was very kind with us, allowing us to talk with him after the show, and offering us his autograph on the ticket.

Dolce e salato

October 25, 2009 // Posted in food  |  No Comments

This morning we worked a lot in our kitchen, preparing many things. We recently bought a nice book, “Easyfinger”, written by Sigrid Verbert, alias “il cavoletto di Bruxelles” and here we are finding many interesting recipes. Today we tried some delicious “pizzette with taleggio, pecorino cheese apples and honey” and although we decided to avoid honey, the result was very impressive. Pizzette were prepared as appetizers, but today we focuses also in some special dessert. In particular we found a nice recipe about a pears cake with cinnamom (the recipe, in italian, is here), and we were very satisfied about the result. Moreover this is the first cake completely made by me (Enrico) with only supervision from Silvia side. Let me confess that I’m proud enough of this result.
