Da qualche giorno abbiamo deciso di dotarci di una stampante, per la gioia soprattutto di Beatrice che ora puo’ stampare le principesse e colorarle… La scelta è caduta su una Samsung M2026W, una stampante laser B/N estremamente economica ma dotata di connessione wifi e con driver per linux, un requisito fondamentale per casa sacchibelli. Configurarla e connetterla alla rete di casa non è stato banalissimo, ma per fortuna le info trovate su questo sito ci hanno aiutato. Sinteticamente:

• Collegare la stampante all’alimentazione
• Accenderla e mettere la carta
• Tenere premuto per 10 secondi il tasto WPS per ottenere la stampa di un foglio con tutte le caratteristiche della stampante, soprattutto quelle relative alla rete (SSID e password della rete generata dalla stampante)
• Collegare un PC alla stessa rete
• Da un browser, acceddere all’IP della stampante (nel nostro caso 192.168.3.1)
• Inserire login (admin) e password (sec00000) to the SynchThru web service page
• Vai a “Settings” -> “Network Settings” -> “Wify” -> “Easy wifi setting” per collegare la stampante al wifi di casa
• Ora occorre installare i driver della stampante sul PC linux da questo link here
• Una volta scaricati, occorre stararli col seguente comandoh: tar xzvhf uld_V1.00.39_01.17.tar.gz
• Nella uld directory eseguire lo script di installazione install-printer.sh
• Dalla home page di CUPS (http://localhost:631) si puo’ procedere aggiungendo una nuova stampante di rete

We recently bought a new (B/W) printer, mostly making Bea very happy because now she can print a lot of princesses to be then coloured. We have chosen a Samsung M2026W, very cheap and linux friendly, a characteristic fundamental here at sacchibelli’s, where, as you know, we are mostly proudly running linux systems. To install and configure it was fine enough, thanks also to the infos we found at this site:

• Connect the printer to power supply
• Switch it on and add some paper in the right position
• Press WPS button for 10 seconds to have a piece of paper printed out with all the infos about the printer, and in particular the SSID (DIRECT-LvM2020 Series) and password of the wifi network generated by the printer
• Connect a (linux) PC to that netowrk
• From a browser, access to the printer IP (in our case 192.168.3.1)
• Insert login (admin) and password (sec00000) to the SynchThru web service page
• Go to “Settings” -> “Network Settings” -> “Wify” -> “Easy wifi setting” to connect the printer to home wifi
• Now it is time to install printer driver on the linux PC downloading it from here
• Once downloaded, please untar it with: tar xzvhf uld_V1.00.39_01.17.tar.gz
• Go in uld directory and execute install script install-printer.sh
• Now from cups webpage (http://localhost:631) you can add the new printer as network printer
