Ho avuto la fortuna di vivere per un po’ di tempo intorno alla Bay Area e di provare l’ebrezza di pedalare per le bellissime vie di San Francisco…
Il legame con quella che entrambi i Sacchibelli ritengono la citta’ piu’ bella del mondo e’ sempre forte, sia per gli amici che vivono nei dintorni, sia perche’ sempre piu’ spesso ci ritroviamo a pensare che forse laggiu’ si vivrebbe meglio che non qui. Cosi’, tramite internet, ci manteniamo aggiornati sulle novita’ di laggiu’, ed e’ bello (e brutto al tempo stesso), constatare che, per quanto riguarda le politiche della mobilita’ (un tema a me molto caro), l’esempio che viene da SF e’ sempre illuminante. Avevo rimosso che gia’ 10 anni fa si poteva commutare senza problemi, con la bici, dal metro’ (BART) agli autobus, al Caltrain. E proprio oggi leggiamo che 20 nuovi percorsi ciclabili sono stati progettati (vedi http://www.sfbike.org). Qui invece la nuova giunta sembra non presentare significative proposte al riguardo, e il ciclista pavese, sempre piu’ sconsolato, zigzaga da un troncone di pista ciclabile all’altro, ritenendosi fortunato quando non trova auto parcheggiate sulla propria strada). E se per il ciclista va male, non meglio va per il pedone. Illuminante e’ la foto qui sotto, dove il marciapiede di viale Matteotti, all’altezza del Pertusati, per i lavori in corso e per permettere comunque il parcheggio alle auto (e’ normale secondo voi che il Comune predisponga parcheggi a pagamento sul marciapiede?????) diventa di fatto una strettoia impraticabile…

I had the chance, in the past, to live around the bay area, one of the most amazing place in the world. Both Sacchibelli really consider San Francisco as the most exciting city where to live. We have many friends living around that zone, so we are often updated about how life is going and about news. Moreover internet allows us to stay tuned (at least virtually) with SF area. So it is nice to see that 20 (20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) new bike paths have been approved (see here). To ride around SF by bike was an amazing experience and at that time I was feeling safer than when I ride through crowded and narrow Pavia street. I remember (look at the video) that yet 10 years ago it was very easy to commute by bike from train, bart or bus, while here it still looks a fanta-scientific experience to do this.
However if for riders life is not easy here in Italy, for pedestrian too it starts to be hard. If you look at the picture you can see how narrow is the viale Matteotti sidewalk. Please, note the sidewalk is very wide in that point, but unfortunately there is an on going facade restauration (on the left) and cars parked (on the right). The bad thing is that car is correctly parked (note the blue lanes) and the “Comune di Pavia” is earning money allowing cars parked on the sidewalk (also where facade restauration are on going). Please, let me know if you know other places in the world where such a strange politic is adoptede!!!!
