Sei mesi…

One month ago, in this post we talked about the orchid that, after five months, was still full of flowers. It was surprising, but after another months, two flowers still survived. Amazing….

Orchidea persistente

L'orchidea persistente

Five months ago Silvia was at the hospital for a surgery. To celebrate her return to home I bought an orchid. Although it was very nice, in particular because its peculiar color, this orchid was quite cheap and nothing special (I bought it at “Esselunga” di Broni). Its flowers accompanied us during these five months, not easy, but progressively characterized by a better feeling, and it is surprising to see that, after five months, these flowers are still with us. We don’t think that, at our latitudes, this is a normal behavior for an orchid, however we are quite happy about that…

Gerani speciali

E speriamo che sopravvivano all’inverno e l’anno prossimo possano riprendere…

Summer is going and fall time is so close. It’s time to change flowers on the balcony of sacchibelli’s place. But our pink geranium. before to leave, gave us a beautiful gift: a superb flowering…

Orchidee

October 18, 2009 // Posted in flowers  |  No Comments

Many weeks ago (roughly 2 months) the male component of the sacchibelli family bought some nice orchids for the female component.I would like focus the attention on the fact that the orchid, probably, is a little bit confused, thinking to be in Singapore and not in the North of Italy. So, let’s see for how long the flowers will survive…

California poppy (2)

May 18, 2009 // Posted in flowers  |  No Comments

As probably you remember (see here) some time ago we planted some california poppy seeds we received from Fernando (the friend of us who doesn’t love blogs). During winter time weahter was very hard for our poppies (we had a lot of snow and very cold days) so we were a little bit pessimistic about them. As a result, until few days ago, we had a lot of leaves from those seeds, but nothing more. But yesterday the first, beautiful poppy appeared and this made us very happy. Maybe it is because during these weeks weather here is like in California, so poppies realized that it is time to come out…
Unfortunately we can enjoy this “californian like” weather only during May, while soon a very hot and wet season will come. But now we have a californian poppy on our balcony, so maybe….

Tulipani

April 5, 2009 // Posted in flowers  |  No Comments

Let’s continue with post based on something related to spring. Today it’s time to show our tulips. THey are only red or white and probably they are not the best tulips in the world (they are weak and they cannot stand in vertical position). However we love them and we are proud of them. We started two years ago when we bought 10 bulbs at the Amsterdam flowers market and today we have more then 20 tulips. This is a little bit strange, to be honest…

Sacchibelli’s flowers

March 29, 2009 // Posted in flowers  |  1 Comment

In last posts we already highlighted our happiness for the coming spring time. So, although this weekend weather was bad, flowers at Sacchibelli’s place don’t care too much about this recent rain, and they become nicer and nicer. Tulips are not ready yet, but the surprise comes from our orchids. After more than one year our Phalenopsys surprised us with a beautiful flower. Primroses too look wonderful, although less exotic than orchids.

California poppy

Ci dobbiamo aspettare Natale coi papaveri?

As probably many of you know, we love California. We spent nice moments over there and we still have a lot of friends around. Jared and his family at Redding, Colin and his family at Berkeley (where we have also Luns and Magnafiume), Marco and Anna (together with little Matteo) at Santa Clara, Ale and Emiko at Stanford (yes we know, Stanford sucks, but Ale and Emiko are true friends to us), then we have Raffaele around L.A. and the huge italian community at Orange County; and we cannot forget the San Diego’s friends Andrea and Rossella (with babies) together with Dany.
So this spring time, when our friend Fernando (the one who does’t love the blogs) gave as gift set of California poppy seeds we were very happy. And following the instructions, few weeks ago we planted them. It was a way to be a little more “californian” than usual.
The problem is that we were expecting to see poppies next spring (according to instructions), but for some strange reason the mild fall season we are experiencing here at Pavia seems to be really congenial to Californian poppies, and the first seedings appeared few days ago. Do you think that we will have californian poppies ready for next Christmas?. Is this usual within California too, or is it a peculiarity of Pavia weather?

With all these wonderful posts from Singapore those who follow this blog could forget the normal kind of posts from Pavia where there are no zoo, nor Indian temples, nor durian!
Here there’s the new succulent plant of Sacchibelli! It’s a gift of one of our nextdoor neighbour. Ok, it’s not as beautiful as Singapore orchids, but it’s nice…

Orchidee

October 4, 2008 // Posted in flowers, Travels  |  2 Comments

Weather at Singapore is hot and humid. A little bit too bad for humans, but perfect for flowers, and in particular for orchids. So today I went to the Botanic Garden, a lovely place full of flowers and vegetation. Inside the Botanic Garden (that is public and free), there is also the “National Orchid Garden” a place full of beautiful orchids. To get into you have to pay (only 5 S$), and what you can see inside is something that cannot be described. Pictures are not so good. But I hope you can understand how nice these flowers are here at Singapore. So, if you will come here, please, enjoy the “National Orchid Garden”.
