Qualche post fa, quando parlavo dello sconsolato ciclista pavese, avevo anche fatto cenno al problema del marciapiede di Viale Matteotti, reso impraticabile dalle auto “lecitamente” parcheggiate e dai lavori di ristrutturazione della facciata di un palazzo.
Prima di parlarne sul blog (circa 25 lettori al giorno) avevo (invano) cercato di contattare gli amministratori locali. Oltre che “superficiali” in certe operazioni, hanno pure esibito un fastidioso senso di superiorita’ non concedendo al sottoscritto, cittadino ed elettore, il minimo riscontro. Ma i Sacchibelli esibiscono nella caparbieta’ uno dei pregi (o difetti) piu’ significativi; cosi’ ora, oltre ai 25 lettori di questo blog, abbiamo interessato della vicenda i 25000 lettori del quotidiano locale. Il prossimo step e’ qualche quotidiano nazionale e poi miriamo al New York Times. E non e’ solo una banale questione di principio; portatori d’handicap, anziani, passeggini e cosi’ via faticano da settimane a superare la strettoia. Che, purtroppo, non e’ l’unica in una citta’ come Pavia, cosi’ poco attenta alle categorie “piu’ deboli”.

Few posts ago I was talking about the issue related to riding the bicycle within Pavia and I also mentioned a problem related to the sidewalk of Viale Matteotti, where, both because of car parked and of facade restauration activity,pedestrian cannot walk anymore through.
I mentioned that on this blog (roughly 25 readers each day) after having in vain contacted local administrators. Whatever is, right or left, italian politicians are famous because they talk to the people before elections but they don’t listen people after elections. But obstinacy is one of Sacchibelli peculiarity, so, after the 25 blog’s readers, we informed additional 25000 readers of the local newspaper (“La Provincia Pavese“) and, waiting for a feedback and for the fixing of the highlighted issue, we are ready to contact nationa newspapers and, in case, the “New York Times” too. (we have some friend in New York City….).

La Dichiarazione Universale dei Diritti dell’Uomo sancisce i principi cardine cui qualunque legislazione dovrebbe ispirarsi. Purtroppo cio’ non sempre accade e in nome di un legittimo desiderio di sicurezza vengono approvate leggi che possono nascondere egoismo e, a nostro avviso, il germe del razzismo. THe Universal Declaration of Human Rights is something that each man, and thus each politician too, should consider as a milestone of his operation. Unfortunately within Europe (and within Italy in particular) this doesn’t always happen. Besides, inspired by a natural desire of safety, it happens that some law where it is possible to find symptoms of hypocrite egoism if not racism, are voted with the approval of the majority of the population. We don’t know exactly what’s happening in Iran, after last elections. But the fact that it is so hard to have news, scares us a lot. We have some friends coming from that country and although it is not possible for us to do anything, we would like to tell that we are close them and that we hope Iranian people will find soon freedom and peace. Let’s sing Joan Baez.

Come forse sapete, qui a casa Sacchibelli siamo abbastanza linux-fanatici. Dei tre PC di casa (due portatili e uno fisso), il sistema operativo di default e’ Gnu-linux (distribuzione Ubuntu); nel mio portatile in particolare, oltre che a essere il default, e’ anche l’unico sistema operativo installato. Per ora restano tracce (praticamente mai usate) di prodotti Microsoft sul fisso e sul portatile di Silvia, ma presto saremo completamente “open-source”.
Questa lunga premessa per giustificare il fatto che, non appena abbiamo visto in vendita, presso il negozio di commercio equo e solidale Ad Gentes delle lattine di Ubuntu cola non abbiamo resistito alla tentazione.
Ovviamente non c’entra nulla con la distribuzione Ubuntu di linux, ma il messaggio che vuole portare e’ lo stesso: “Io sono perche’ noi siamo”; e il commercio equo e solidale aiuta noi, consumatori del nord del mondo a non dimenticarci dei produttori del sud del mondo.

As probably you know, here at Sacchibelli place we like Gnu-linux as OS for our PCs. In particular our 2 laptops and our desktop are all running Ubuntu, a famous linux distribution. My laptop in particular is happily “Microsoft free” and hopefully soon both Silvia’s laptop and the desktop will follow the same philosophy.
This long introduction is to justify the fact that, once we entered in the Ad Gentes store last Saturday, we didn’t resist to the temptation to try Ubuntu cola.
Obviously it is not related to the linux distribution, but the message from the open source community and the one from the fair trade is almost the same: “I am because we are”.

Come ogni anno, anche quest’anno si svolgera’ il torneo di ping pong interno a Marvell, la compagnia per cui lavoro. Quest’anno pero’ il torneo sara’ piu’ worlwide del solito, nel senso che si disputera’ anche presso la piccola sede di Pavia.
L’unico problema e’ che, essendo un periodo economico non banale, ci siamo dovuti ingegnare. Non avendo un tavolo da ping pong, abbiamo cosi’ deciso di prenderlo in prestito. All’oratorio di Giovenzano, un paese non lontano da qui, ce n’era uno disponibile e inutilizzato in questo periodo; conoscendo uno di noi il gentilissimo parroco don Lorenzo, siamo riusciti ad averlo a disposizione. L’unico problema e’ stato il trasporto, a nostro carico.
Le foto rendono conto solo parzialmente della criticita’ del trasporto. Ma alla fine, dopo qualche avventura un po’ fantozziana, la piccola Peugeot 206 e’ riuscita nell’impresa. I miei colleghi Antonio e Chiara hanno dato un contributo determinante (Antonio in senso fisico, Chiara in senso psicologico), e cosi’ ora ci si puo’ divertire in previsione dell’imminente torneo.

As usual there will be soon the worldwide ping pong tournament among Marvell (the company where I’m employee) sites. This year it will be more worldwide than usual, because Italy too is considered.
Unfortunately, because of the economic crisis, we had to organize it saving as money as possible. So, we rented the ping pong table (thanks to the friendship between Antonio and don Lorenzo) but we had to carry it from Giovenzano to Marvell site by ourselves. The distance is not that long (roughly 10 km) but our car is not that big (and for sure, ping pong table is bigger). Pictures do not exactly show the criticality of the transportation. It was funny (at the end) and now we can start our training for the tournament.

Come forse sapete, uno dei due Sacchibelli e’ particolarmente entusiasta dell’Ikea, posto peraltro interessante dove fare acquisti intelligenti a prezzi ragionevoli.
Ogni tanto capita quindi di andarci a fare un giretto e di trovare spunti interessanti per la nostra casetta.
Certo, quando invece e’ l’Ikea che, per celebrare il suo ventesimo anniversario, viene a trovarci nella nostra citta’, piazzando un’enorme libreria proprio dietro la Chiesa dove ci siamo sposati, la componente femminile dei Sacchibelli appare piuttosto stupita e felice.

As probably you know, the female component of Sacchibelli’s family is particularly excited when we go to Ikea. To be honest, it is a nice store where usually we find some interesting (and cheap) solution for our house.
But when Ikea, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, comes directly to Pavia putting a huge bookcase on the back side of the church where we got married, Silvia appears very happy…

L’acqua è di sicuro un bene primario, forse il bene primario per eccellenza. Ci sono zone del mondo dove l’acqua manca e la gente muore; ci sono zone dove invece se ne spreca in gran quantità e questo fa parte delle tristi contraddizioni del mondo d’oggi. Attorno all’acqua ruotano poi interessi economici inimmaginabili. Sul web si trovano parecchi spunti di riflessione, anche se è difficile poi capire nel dettaglio quando le informazioni che si trovano sono spesso caotiche e non di rado contrastanti. Segnalo comunque questo link per almeno farsi un’idea del problema.

Questo lungo cappello introduttivo si rende necessario per spiegare un episodio che ci ha dato parecchio da pensare. Sempre nella gita milanese di sabato scorso è capitato di passare anche alla “Rinascente”, vicino a Piazza del Duomo. Questo centro commerciale, particolarmente elegante e ricco, ha l’ultimo piano dedicato a una vasta scelta di eleganti e prelibati prodotti alimentari. Certo sono prodotti di alto livello, ma curiosare tra gli scaffali è comunque interessante. Mi è così cascato l’occhio, nel reparto acque minerali, su una bottiglia di “Fiji” Artesian Water, definita acqua da collezione e venduta a 9.50€ al litro. Ora, posto che ognuno è libero di vendere l’acqua a qualunque prezzo ritenga opportuno, risulta quanto meno strano imbottigliare delle molecole di idrogeno e di ossigeno (in adeguata proporzione) alle isole Fiji per spedirle poi dalla parte opposta del globo (dove peraltro, e per fortuna, di acqua ce n’e’ in abbondanza). Certo nel prezzo di una mercanzia entrano anche le spese di spedizione, e viene da pensare che forse 9.50€ al litro non sia neppure una cifra esagerata. Forse semplicemente si poteva evitare. Ma di sicuro il prezzo dell’acqua delle Fiji risulta di sicuro onesto se lo si confronta con il costo di una bottiglia di “Acqua da Collezione Obama”: 300€!!! Certo, è limited edition, però…

Ah dimenticavo, i Sacchibelli bevono l’ottima acqua fornita dall’acquedotto di Pavia: il costo è di qualche euro al metro cubo (1 metro cubo = 1000 litri). E se si ha il desiderio delle bollicine… c’e’ l’ottima idrolitina. Il tutto senza l’uso di bottiglie di plastica.

Water is the most important element present in nature, at least for humans and animals. There are too many people that die because of lack of water. There will probably be wars because of water and for sure there are a lot of economic interests around water.
Howver, just remaining around the sacchibelli’s micro world, yesterday, going to Milano, we went also to “La Rinascente”, a very nice and famous mall close to the cathedral. At the top flore there is a very interesting section dedicated to foods and drinks. Things here, although very expensive, look exceptional. But yesterday we were very surprised to see that they sell also some “artesian water” coming from Fiji Islands, at the cost of 9.50€/l. The cost is high, but if you consider the shipment expenses it could be ok. It just look strange that people put water (H2O) in a bottle at Fiji island to send it here where, hopefully, we have a lot of water around. But the most extraordinary bottle of water was the one of the second picture: collection water “Obama”, limited edition. It costs 300€/l and this is very surprising. For sure, they can sell whatever they want at whatever price they decide, but….
And do you think that President Obama knows this?
However, at Sacchibelli’s place we drink tap water. It is pretty good and it costs some euro at m3 (1000 litres); and we can add idrolitina too.

Abbiamo sempre amato i treni, pur consapevoli che la situazione italiana, specie per quanto riguarda i treni pendolari, lascia molto a desiderare. L’idea di treno come mezzo di trasporto pubblico e’ bella, non c’e’ che dire. Pero’ spesso qui in Italia sembra che venga fatto di tutto per farci disamorare dei treni. Cosi’ ieri, andando a Milano abbiamo fatto il biglietto per andata (3.05€) e ritorno (3.05€) con treno regionale. Se da un lato abbiamo avuto una buona puntualità (ma abbiamo sentito annunci di treni con ritardi di 100 minuti!!!), le carrozze erano vergognosamente sporche (e qui la responsabilità è sia di chi sporca e di chi non pulisce). Fino a qui non ci sarebbe comunque motivo di scrivere un post su questo blog, se non che, al ritorno, per evitare di aspettare per più di un’ora il primo treno regionale per Milano, abbiamo deciso di prendere l’Intercity che sarebbe partito da lì a poco. Ci siamo così recati in biglietteria e ingenuamente abbiamo chiesto di acquistare il supplemento Intercity. Abbiamo così scoperto che ora questo non è più possibile (la motivazione è che due diverse società gestiscono rispettivametne i treni regionali e Intercity) e la soluzione più semplice propostaci dalla signora alla biglietteria è stata quella di convertire i nostri biglietti in biglietti per treni Intercity, pagando una mora (0.61€, catalogati come “diritto di sostituzione”) e ottenendo così un nuovo biglietto che ci è stato fatto pagare 3€ ma del valore di 6€. Al di là della procedura barocca e decisamente complessa rispetto alla situazione di qualche anno fa, vi è da aggiungere che il tempo richiesto per l’operazione è stato di circa 10 minuti… Tutto si può dire, ma non certo che le ferrovie italiane siano efficienti…

As probably you know, italian trains are not famous for their efficiency. Yes, now they claim to have a very fast train called “Frecciarossa” but the problem is that regional trains often are a mess. However, when we went to see the Magritte exposition last Saturday, the train to Milano was at least on time (but it was not clean at all). The one way ticket costs 3.05€, and it is cheap enough. Coming back to Pavia in the afternoon we decided to take a “relatively” faster train called “Intercity” because we didn’t want to wait more than one hour for the regional train. To ride the Intercity you need a special ticket and we went to the ticket office to upgrade ours (this procedure was very standard until few months ago). But yesterday we discovered that it is not possible anymore to do that. And after more than 10 minutes, the lady at the ticket office was able to provide us the solution. We already payed for the regular ticket “Milano – Pavia” (3.05 €), then we had to pay a kind of penalty (0.6€) and then we had to buy the special ticket for Intercity train with a discount (3€ instread of 6€).
It was quite hard to understand the logic of such a procedure, but at least the train was on time. And as expected ìt was very dirty….

A volte si pensa a Cuba come a un paradiso turistico, a volte come a una dittatura crudele. Di certo, da qui, per chi non c’e’ mai stato, e’ dura capire come stiano realmente le cose; di sicuro l’avviso affisso sull’ingresso del teatro Fraschini lascia intuire che non sempre la liberta’ viene prima di tutto.

Sometimes we imagine Cuba as an Earthy paradise, a wonderful place where to spend our vacations. Some other times, we remember that, at the end, it is a place based on dictatorship, and probably not everyone is happy to leave there. Many people try to find their freedom escaping from Cuba. Not clear to understand where it’s the truth. For sure, the message we found at the “Teatro Fraschini” is a little bit unnerving. The message is that the National Ballet of Cuba can’t be in Pavia, as expected, because it has been forced to stay in Cuba to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Revolution…

Vista la passione e l’entusiasmo che la compomente Belli mostra per la preparazione di dolci, impasti, pizze, focacce e quant’altro, e visto il gusto con cui la componente Sacchi adora divorarli, i Sacchibelli hanno colto l’occasione del Natale per dotarsi di un robot da cucina. Una volta presa la decisione è venuto però il difficile, ovvero la scelta (gestita dalla componente Sacchi). Pare che il mercato dei robot da cucina sia dominato da Kitchenaid, negli States e da Kenwood in Europa. Dopo attenta analisi e comparazione di prestazioni e prezzi dell’Artisan di Kitchenaid e del KM010 di Kenwood, ascoltati i consigli e i suggerimenti di felici possessori sia del Kitchenaid (Emiko and Ale, Billa and Anna) che del Kenwood, la scelta è caduta sul Kenwood (in Italia, per qualche insensata politica commerciale, il Kitchenaid viene venduto a prezzi improponibili…).
Il Kenwood è più potente, il Kitchenaid è sicuramente più cool, ma alla fine la mia opinione è che le macchine siano abbastanza equivalenti.
Ad ogni modo il nostro KM010 ha già esordito a Santo Stefano impastando magistralmente (con la frusta K) l’impasto per la preparazione di ottime margheritine di Stresa.

As you know the Belli component of Sacchibelli loves to cook and to prepare any kind of cakes, pizzas, focaccias and so on. On the other hand, the Sacchi component love to eat them…
So, for Christmas we decided to buy a food processor, but the choice was not that easy. It seems that there are 2 brands that dominate the food processors market, Kitchenaid, within USA and Kenwood witìhin Europe. We compared the trade offs between the Artisan from Kitchenaid and the KM010 from Kenwood and we asked also people that own the first one or the second one. At the end we concluded that the two food processors are quite similar; Kenwood is more powerfull, while Kitchenaid is for sure a “cool” object. However, for some strange commercial reason, Kitchenaid in Italy is sold at very high prices (compared to other European countries and USA) and at the end we choose the KM010 from Kenwood.
The day after Christmas we used it to prepare the mixture for the famous cookies called “margheritine di stresa”, and the result was quite exciting.
