A Singapore la maggioranza della popolazione e’ di origine cinese, e hanno i tipici tratti somatici orientali. La rimanente parte e’ invece di origine indiana. L’impressione e’ che tutti convivano abbastanza fraternamente, anche se di sicuro la parte cinese e’ quella ricca, mentre gli indiani danno l’impressione di essere “piu’ poveri”. Ad esempio, la maggior parte della manodopera impegnata nei numerosissimi cantieri qui a Singapore, e’ indiana.
Dopo aver visitato, lo scorso weekend, le zone cinesi, oggi pomeriggio sono stato a “Little India” e il posto mi ha davvero entusiasmato. Il folclore, i colori e la musica che si respiravano nei mercatini ricchi di prodotti artigianali indiani era davvero sorprendente, e pur non essendo mai stato in India, ho avuto l’impressione di respirare davvero la vera atmosfera indiana. E ne ho anche approfittato per fare un po’ di shopping..

The majority of the persons here at Singapore are from China, or at least they look like “oriental”; the remaining are from India and the nice thing is that it seems that both people from China and from India live together without problems. For sure, from the economic point of view, Indians are quite poor and they mainly work ad builders in the several construction sites you can find here at Singapore. In the afternoon I visited “Little India” a zone where people from India live following their traditions. And it was exciting to see the millions of colours, the sounds and the perfumes of a so peculiar zone of the world. I probably was the only white Caucasian among hundreds of Indians, but I felt very well and I did a lot of shopping, buying many indian products; they look like very nice, and quite cheap.
