Lunedi’ scorso siamo partiti per una breve vacanza a Budapest, la Parigi dell’est Europa, una citta’ affascinante che avevo visto di sfuggita qualche anno fa e che meritava una visita piu’ accurata.
Cosi’, assieme a Silvia, abbiamo organizzato una quattro giorni molto intensa e parecchio entusiasmante.
Budapest si e’ confermata una citta’ ricca di arte, storia e fascino; molto ben tenuta e estremamente dinamica. Gli ungheresi inoltre, almeno quelli con cui abbiamo interagito, sono risultati essere persone molto cordiali e ospitali. Insomma, e’ un viaggio che ci sentiamo di consigliare a chiunque.
La vacanza e’ stato a basso costo, sia per la compagnia aerea scelta, la Wizz (low cost ma molto efficiente, peraltro), sia per l’alloggio (l’ottima Abel Panzio, un bed & breakfast estremamente piacevole, ben curato e ben gestito), sia per il costo della vita che a Budapest e’ abbastanza ridotto rispetto a quello italiano (una birra grande costa due euro, per dare un’idea).
Sia Buda (la citta’ alta, con la Chiesa di Mattia, il bastione dei pescatori, il palazzo reale e una splendida vista sul Danubio e sulla citta’ bassa), che Pest (la citta’ bassa, forse piu’ turistica ma con perle straordinarie come l’ineguagliabile palazzo del Parlamento) sono citta’ a misura d’uomo, con ampie zone pedonali, ciclabili e con il fascino delle citta’ attraversate dai grandi fiumi, il Danubio in questo caso, con ponti bellissimi. Citta’ anche ricca di storia (e di sofferenza), Budapest sembra rialzarsi per l’ennesima volta dopo il periodo del terrore comunista e i mille cantieri aperti nel centro lasciano immaginare che tra non molti anni, sara’ una citta’ ancora piu’ splendente di adesso.
Infine, un cenno anche alla pulizia e all’efficienza dei mezzi di trasporto. Anche dall’Ungheria torniamo consapevoli che in Italia, da questo punto di vista, siamo messi molto ma molto male.

Last Monday we went to Budapest, the Paris of East Europe, for a short vacation. We spent four days over there and the experience was extremely positive.
Budapest is a fascinating city, full of art and history; moreover it looks very clean (cleaner for sure of italian cities) dynamic and safe. Moreover Hungarian people demonstrated to be very kind and very open to tourists. They speak a good english and it is very nice to interact with them. We strongly suggest to visit Budapest, it is a lovely city, although probably July is not the best period because weather is very hot.
Both Buda (the high part of the city, with Mattia Church, the “Bastione dei pescatori”, the royal palace and an amazing view on the Danube and its bridges) and Pest (the low part of the city, probably more touristic but with some extraordinary gem like Parliament palace) are places where it is nice to walk or to ride bicycles, with large area where cars are not allowed. Budapest is also full of history and full of horror because of the past tragedy (the National Socialism and then the Communism), but it is a city that is growing fast with a lot of works in progress and probably, in few years, it will be a more and more fascinating city.
The travel was quite cheap: the flight was with Wizz, we reserved a room at Abel Panzio, a lovely Bed and Breakfast in a nice area not so far from the center, and we found good food quite cheap compared to Italy. One beer, for example costs only 2 euros.
