Il nostro ospite Colin

January 31, 2008 // Posted in friends  |  1 Comment

Last week we had a special guest at our place. Our friend Colin came to Pavia for few days and to have him as a guest was a special occasion to spend some time and to have fun with him.
We already miss him, and we hope he will come back soon. Also because he promised that he will cook something of special for us.

As already explained, one of the reasons why it is nice to be back here in Italy is good food. So, last saturday there was a little regional market in the center of Pavia, with a lot of wonderful stand. In the picture you can see food from Umbria and Sicily, but I guarantee that there were also stands from Puglia (taralli and caciocavallo), Favignana (tuna and bottarga), AMalfi (Limoncello) and many other things.
On sunday I had lunch at a nice agriturismo (Cascina Caremma) not far from Pavia. Everything was great, but in particular I was crazy for this dish of “affettati”.

Happy Birthday

Buon compleanno Silvia.

Starting with today, in sacchibelli family there is no more people whose age starts with 2. Silvia too now is 30 years old. And at her mother and sister place we ate a very nice cake.
Happy birthday Silvia.

Last week it was time for the wonderful “salame crudo”. This time we tried to make bread with olives (see picture).
The results were pretty good. So, while you can watch it, we can eat it….

Fog

After snow and rain, sun is expected here in Pavia. There is sun, but we can’t see it because of fog. If someone has never seen fog,it could be nice and could also be romantic. But we definitely would prefer the californian sun…

Cenetta

Back in Pavia, we started again inviting some friends for dinner at our place. So last saturday we spent a nice evening together with Davide, Fernando and Luisa. After the dinner, we played at Carcassonne, an interesting table game. And I won.

Aspetti positivi

Obviously, there is some side benefit here. The most important one is Silvia (that probably can’t be defined only as a side benefite) but also “salame crudo” is a very nice thing I missed a lot during my californian period. I think that the italian community that I met during my period (Billa and Anna, Ale and Emiko, Mattia, Raffaele, Gianfranco and Anna, Beppe and Sara, Brando and Silvia, Andrea and Rossella, Daniela, Matteo and Valentina) looks covetously to the picture…

Neve

To be back in Pavia is not that terrible, although I’m missing a lot Californian weather. To take off from San Francisco in a wonderfull sunny day and to land, 13 hours later, in a snow storm at Milano airport has been a little bit wounding. In the picture you can see the panorama from our windows, the morning after our landing.

Ultimo dell’anno

The last day of the year we went to Marco and Anna’s place for a dinner. There was also Dove, Anna’s sister.
The dinner was great (focaccia with mortadella and bresaola seems to be unbelievable as a californian menu) and we also played to Mexican Domino Train, an interesting table-game. And obviously I won.
Thanks again for such a nice evening with you, american friends.
Instead of fireworks, Marco tried to fire and smoke the house, us and the cats with the fireplace, but after a little moment of panic, everything worked fine.

Crab dinner

E compagnia eccellente.

Here again some nostalgic pictures about our recent travel to California. On December the 28th we had a dinner at Newport Beach together with Anna and Gianfranco, Mattia and Guia and the famous Raffaele).
The dinner was great, and crab-based. The place was a little bit strange, but to have dinner with friends is always beautifull.
