Un anno di Bimmy
November 17, 2013 // Posted in bike, cars | No Comments
Roughly one year ago we bought a new car (see here), choosing a brand new Ford B-Max, also called Bimmy by Lorenzo. We are very happy with Bimmy (we didn’t have any issue till now) but we are also proud of the km we drove with it. In fact, as you know, we are sustainable mobility fan and we prefer our bycicles or public transportantion, when possible. Italy public transportation does not help too much, and probably we are not ready yet to a life without a personal car, however this year we used our bimmy for only 6200 km (burning roughly 400l gasoline), and probably, summing the km we rode (both Silvia and I) we can say that we used more the bicycles than the car. See here for some detail. When will be we ready to survive withouth a car?

As you probaly know, we don’t like that our city is so crowded of (big) cars, and that their parking everywhere is somehow tolerated. We posted many pictures about that, but the SUV illegally parked on the sidewalk, under the road sign, for all the morning, without receiving any fine is really surprising, and sad…

After 12 years, at the end we decided to substitute our old “Peugeot 206“. It was still working pretty well, but we needed some more room with little Lorenzo. After some investigation we decided to buy a brand new “Ford B-Max“. It looks great, but we miss a lot our “enfant terrible”.

Here in Pavia life for pedestrian is quite hard. Although sidewalks are supposed to be used by pedestrains, here, somewhere, cars are allowed to park there (and also if they should not be allowed, cars are tolerated almost everywhere). So the sidewalk becomes narrow, and if the car is not correctly parked within the space reserved, here is what you obtain. No way to walk through….

Pavia administrators decided that to park on many sidewalks is allowed (no matter if the room for pedestrians becomes small). Let’s avoid any comment (they would be not elegant…), but let’s suggest that, after painting the places on the sidewalk, they should take out the old “no parking” road sign.
Marciapiede?

Here in Italy, and @ Pavia in particular, we (pedestrians and bicycle riders) have to survive and fight against too many cars. The room is not enough for all, and it is sad to note that the arrogance of many car drivers is too much tolerated. So it is common to see some situation similar to the one I taken in the picture: the sidewalk is crowded of car illegally parked, and a pedestrian with a stroller is forced to walk on the street… What a sadness….

We don’t know if Fiat will be able to react to the european market car crisis, but as italians we hope so. For sure new 500 is having, at least in Italy, a good success. It is funny because it can be customized in many ways, but the photo we took few days ago surprised us a lot…

Few days ago we have seen a strange car here in Pavia… Obviously everyone is free to choose the color he prefers, but a Hello kitty style car is quite unusual here around…
Sosta selvaggia

Succede solo in Italia (e piu’specificatamente in via Bixio). W l’Italia.
Probably it happens only in Italy, and more specifically in via Bixio, in Pavia. Usually there are many cars parked on the sidewalk, thus causing troubles to pedestrians, but there is no any police guy that give them a parking ticket, mainly because police guys are probably too busy and don’t have time to come here. But yesterday it was scheduled a street cleaning and traffic police appeared thus giving parking tickets to all the cars parked on the left side of the street. Unfortunately they didn’t give any parking ticket to the ford fiesta parked on the sidewalk… thus confirming to me the sensation that in Italy it is allowed to park over there. I’m worried that next time, to avoid parking tickets during street cleaning, everyone will park on the sidewalk….
Parcheggio rampante

I Sacchibelli prediligono muoversi a piedi o in bici, e limitano l’uso dell’auto. Eppure risulta parcheggiata in spazi destinati a portatori d’handicap….
As you know we prefer walking or riding the bicycle instead of using a car. And usually we use public transportation, if needed. So we don’t like too much those car drivers that use to park everywhere, sidewalks and bike paths included, without considering that their cars can be a serious obstacle to people with disabilities. Nevertheless those drivers that take advantage of not regular handicap permits are particularly hateful. And similarly those drivers that, without any permits, park their cars (in this case a Ferrari!!!) where only driver with handicaps should park are not loved by Sacchibellis
